How to Stop and Take a Breather

I’m sure we have all had those moments in life when things just don’t seem to be going our way. It can be hard to see a light at the end of the tunnel and irrational, negative thoughts pop up that aren’t doing us any justice.

When everyone and everything is demanding our undivided attention in this fast paced, digital age world, it can be so overwhelming that it halts our progress.

With what feels like never ending to do lists, whether at home or work, relationship struggles, or even on your travels. It can be hard to stop yourself for a moment and just be present with yourself and your thoughts.

Goodness knows this has happened to me on more than one occasion. Working a full time job, then coming home to work on building my business. I sometimes get so overwhelmed, I find I’m actually less productive if I try to persevere.

Enter the time to stop and take a moment.

TAKE A BREATHER…LITERALLY.

This is something I have started incorporating into my weekly schedule, especially when I get a creative block, anxious and overwhelmed, or feel like I’ve hit a wall.

I grab an incense stick or two, maybe a cider or wine as well, put on my chill music playlist and I sit outside in the garden, or on my balcony.

There’s something so calming about watching incense burn. The way the smoke dances in the wind, moving this way and that, twisting around itself and changing directions.

Close your eyes and just focus on your breath for a moment here. In this moment let everything else fade away.

Listen to the music, smell the aromatic scent of the incense and count 5 things you are grateful for at this point in time.

Then simply sit there in this instance until the last ember of the incense has faded away. Hopefully by this time, your troubles have faded with it. For now anyways.

We know there will always be more worries on our mind just around the corner. That is apart of life and a part of being human.

But if we can make space in our life at least once a week to take a moment to ourselves, maybe we can get through the days until the next one.

Share with me how you take a moment to yourself.

Would love to know what works for you and helps you get through the more challenging times in life.
